Learn to Sculpt with Marji Talbot MA

Sculptor and Curator of Art Junction

Who is Marji and what does she do?

Marji is a practicing sculptor, teacher and mentor who founded the open access studio now known as Art Junction as Sussex Sculpture Studios in 2007. In this recent time of closed doors and lockdowns, she realised that fewer people were able come to the studio. A change of approach was needed. Now, along with running downsized, socially distanced sculpture sessions at the studio, she has collaborated with tutors to reinvent the studio’s courses and resources offering as an online collective, Art Junction.

Who and what does Marji teach at Art Junction?

Marji runs weekly ‘hot benching’ sessions every Tuesday for sculptors of all levels who want to physically attend at the studio. She offers mentorship and advice on project design, sculpting, moulding and casting. She is also involved in the production of:

Project Prompts: on a changing monthly project basis (alternating with Fleur Cowgill) for students who want a combination of art history and practical exercises.

Curating livestream life and portraiture sessions: working with other tutors to capture actual sessions on video and camera to produce resources, video and photo packs and photographs that are sent out after every livestream session.

1-to-1 sessions: no matter your level, Marji can advise, mentor, and support you. With many years’ practical experience of the problems that students encounter in the studio, she has the comprehensive hands-on knowledge to quickly resolve issues and move projects forward. Whether you want to sculpt a portrait, your dachshund, your pet duck, a geometric figure, or a gargoyle, Marji can help. Marji is available Friday afternoons for 1 to 1 sessions.

In Marji’s own words…

“Over the years a huge number of different people have come to the studio – some with big projects in mind, some with no experience at all. It’s always wonderful to share their journey and the pleasure they get from a finished piece.”
